My brother's house was the house I was raised in before my parents pulled up stakes and headed for the other side of the country.
Every time I visit, my sister in law makes a point of giving me boxes of "junk" that used to be in the house prior to her living there.
I love these boxes, they smell like things I haven't smelled since I was too small to reach up onto the kitchen counters. I find objects that were once forbidden for me to touch in my older siblings bedrooms and now here they are entirely abandoned in a coffee can.
I feel like someone has reached inside my chest and squeezed my heart a little.
The coffee can I received last night was no different, I dug through cutesy ceramic kittens, knock off hubble figurines and weird ornate soap holders that I recall was located in the fancy bathroom. The next stratified layer was made up of divorced earrings and broken jewelry that clearly belonged to my grandma Thelma. Way at the bottom I found this.

It feels distinctly like ivory in my hands and the metal holder at the top is sterling silver. It is nearly three inches long and it looks to be a carving of a fist with the thumb between the index and middle finger, in a familiar "got your nose!" position.
I am mysteriously attracted to it. I can't stop picking it up and feeling the tiny scratches on the surface. There is no appreciable temperature so when you pick it up, it feels like part of your hand.
I am inches away from throwing it onto a silver ball chain and never removing it from around my neck except it is clearly a symbol. The problem is I have no idea what it means or from which culture it was bought during my grandmother's many travels.
I mean I don't want to wear something around that means "I hate Jews" or something like that. I have been researching for hours now and have found nothing.
You guys want to take a crack at it?
Many thanks in advance to you my internet amigos.
