Massachusetts works of art
Jun. 1st, 2005 03:22 pmA bunch of corporate types stood around the desk I was inhabiting temporarily. I had finished my training for the week and had extra time to kick around the city. They spoke to me although I felt as if they were really talking more to each other. "There is just SO much to see here in Boston it is hard to choose!"
"You should go see the Museum of Natural History!"
"Oh yes, well anything at Harvard is really worth seeing, we should send her to Cambridge."
"I know, have you walked the Freedom trail yet?"
I listened politely and tried to avoid committing to any of their well meaning suggestions since I already had it in my head exactly where I was going. As I packed up my laptop I had hoped they wouldn't ask.
"So where ARE you going to go?"
I probably should have just outright lied, but I likely wasn't going to be seeing these people again and truthfully my enthusiasm for my evening plans was at a rolling boil.
I blurted out with more glee than I intended, "You guys have so much! There is the largest collection of Tom Thumb memorabilia in Middleborough, a really tiny church about a half hour away and there is apparently a whole building shaped like a giant milk bottle near Cape Cod but they all close at five and I don't have time to make it there. I am driving to Dedham instead."
They all looked confused, "What is in Dedham?"
"The Museum of Bad Art!"
